Description

Description

A chipped joint or a pothole in a slab is a small job, but it holds up the whole floor. You can’t coat over it, and you can’t leave the floor out of action for a week waiting on a slow repair.

Quick Build is a two-part epoxy filler putty for patching damaged concrete floors before they are coated. It is made from the same epoxy resin as our solvent-free floor system, so the patch is as hard-wearing as the coating that goes over it. It stands up to foot and vehicle traffic, impact, water, and mild acids and alkalis.

Where it goes and where it doesn’t

Use it on:

  • Chipped slab edges and saw-cut joint arrises
  • Spalled patches, gouges and pop-outs up to 50 mm deep
  • Non-moving cracks in garage, workshop, warehouse and commercial floors
  • Slabs with moisture content up to 4%

Don’t use it on:

  • Moving or structural cracks. If a crack is still opening, it will open straight through any rigid filler. Find and fix the cause first.
  • Expansion or control joints that need to move. These take a flexible sealant.
  • Slabs above 4% moisture, or with rising damp. Test the slab first.
  • Below 5°C. It won’t cure properly.

How far it goes

Coverage depends entirely on the size of the damage. Deep or wide voids use more than you expect, so measure the damage first and order with a margin.

The numbers

Property Value
Type Two-part epoxy putty
Base resin Epoxy
Mix ratio (A:B) 2:1 by volume, plus CP filler to suit
Pot life at 25°C 30 minutes
Max fill depth per layer 50 mm
Sand After 8 hours
Coat over Within 72 hours
Light foot traffic 8 hours
Full cure 7 days
Max slab moisture 4%
Min. application temperature 5°C
Chemical resistance Mild acids and alkalis
Colour Khaki

Two things worth knowing before you start

  1. It’s fast, so only mix what you can use within 30 minutes. Mix Part A and Part B at 2:1 first, then fold in the CP filler until you get the consistency you want: wetter for fine cracks, stiffer for deep patches and edges. On a hot day the window gets shorter, so mix in small batches.
  2. Overfill slightly, sand the patch flush after 8 hours, and get the coating on within 72 hours. A patch left proud or low will show through the coating.

Surface prep

Grind or chase out the damaged area back to sound, solid concrete. Undercut the edges where you can. Vacuum out every bit of dust, and check slab moisture is under 4%. Putty laid over loose material or dust will pop out, and the coating over it will go with it.

What’s in the tin
