Description

A flat floor is a preparation job before it is a coating job

Most self-levelling floors that go wrong don’t go wrong because of the resin. They go wrong because the slab was still holding moisture, the primer was skipped to save an hour, or the mix sat in the bucket past its pot life and went down in ridges that no roller was going to pull out.

GRANPOX SL 500 is built for people who have done the prep and want a floor that finishes flat, takes traffic, and looks the same in five years as it did on day two.

What is GRANPOX SL 500?

GRANPOX SL 500 is a two-part epoxy self-levelling floor coating supplied with a graded coloured quartz blend. Poured, spread and spike-rolled, it self-levels to a seamless finish with the quartz carried through the body of the coat rather than broadcast on top — so the colour and the texture don’t wear off the surface; they wear with it.

Available in 4 Colours.

Where it goes

  • Warehouse and workshop floors that see foot traffic, trolleys, forklifts, and lifts
  • Showrooms, retail and display floors where the finish is part of the fit-out
  • Commercial kitchens, plant rooms and wash-down areas
  • Over sound concrete, and over existing epoxy that has been mechanically abraded and is well bonded

Where it doesn’t

  • Slabs without a working damp-proof membrane, unless a moisture-tolerant primer goes down first
  • Exterior floors in direct sun — epoxy chalks and fades under UV. If the floor sees sun, it needs a Dur-Aspart over it. We’d rather tell you that now than have you looking at a patchy floor in two summers.
  • Over asphalt, or over any surface that flexes
  • Slabs younger than 28 days

Coveragea

At a 2 mm build, o10-liter 10 kit covers approximately 7 m².

That figure assumes a flat, closed, primed slab. On a porous or open-textured floor, the first pour will find every low spot and every pinhole, and coverage can drop by 10% or more. Prime properly and the numbers hold.

The numbers

Resin system Epoxy
Mix ratio ( A: B by weight) 4 to 1
Pot life @ 25°C 30 min
Build per coat 2 mm
Touch dry 8 Hours
Foot traffic 24 hours
Full chemical cure 7 Days
Compressive strength 25 MPa
Application temperature 15°C to 25°C
Slab moisture (max) 8%
VOC 40 g/L
Shelf life, unopened 24 months

Two things worth knowing before you start

1. Test the slab for moisture, not just for dryness. A slab can look bone dry and still push moisture up through a cured floor months later. Osmotic blistering is the single most common reason a self-levelling floor gets pulled up and redone. Do a [[moisture test method]] and, if the reading is over 8%, prime with moisture-tolerant primer before you open a tin of this.

2. Mix the whole kit, and pour on time. Part-mixing a kit is how you end up with soft patches that never fully cure. Combine the full Part A and Part B, mix for 3 minutes with a paddle at 250 rpm, and scrape the sides and base of the drum. From the moment the parts meet, you have 30 min — plan the pour, have the spiked roller in your hand, and don’t stop mid-bay.

Surface preparation

Diamond grind the floor. Remove all laitance, curing compound, old sealer, and oil.

Vacuum, don’t sweep. Prime with Primit E1-111 and pour within the primer’s overcoat window of 8 hours — outside that window, it needs abrading again.

What’s in the kit

  • Part A resin, 8 L
  • Part B hardener, 2 L
  • Mixing and application instructions

Spiked roller, mixing drum and 1 mm notched squeegee sold separately.
